Musk Launches AI Startup

Elon Musk has announced the creation of his new company called X.AI. The goal of the company is to understand the true nature of the universe. Musk, who is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, as well as the owner of Twitter, plans to share more information about the company and its objectives in a Twitter Spaces chat.

The team behind X.AI is composed of former employees from various companies such as DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Twitter, and Tesla. This team has worked on diverse projects in their past companies.

The company goals

Although Elon Musk has previously warned about the dangers of artificial intelligence, which he sees as a threat to humanity, X.AI is still progressing. 

Musk has even signed a letter calling for a pause in major AI experiments, which has garnered over 33,000 signatures. However, it’s uncertain what type of AI X.AI will concentrate on or what its goals are.

X.AI will go head-to-head with OpenAI’s Chatbot GP, which is primarily backed by Microsoft. The funding and objectives of X.AI are currently unknown.

An article in the Financial Times discusses the emergence of a new company called X.AI. Their goal is to rival OpenAI, a company known for creating the chatbot GPT that utilizes generative artificial intelligence to interact with humans and produce various texts upon request. Since its launch in November 2022, Chatbot GPT has been quite successful, leading to a race among technology companies to develop similar advanced capabilities.

Elon Musk and AI

Musk was a founder of OpenAI in 2015 but left in 2018. Since 2019, Microsoft has become the primary funder of the California-based startup. According to the Financial Times, the official registration document for X.AI, dated March 9, 2023, lists Elon Musk as a director and Jared Burchell, a former banker at Morgan Stanley who manages Musk’s wealth, as the secretary.

Since the end of February 2023, multiple specialized media outlets have reported that Elon Musk is investing in artificial intelligence. According to sources, Musk recently hired Igor Babushkin and Manuel Kreuz, who both previously worked for Google’s DeepMind artificial intelligence lab under the Alphabet group. 

Additionally, it has been reported that Musk purchased approximately 10,000 graphics processors that are essential computers for training the language programs used in generative artificial intelligence systems.

In late March 2023, Elon Musk and hundreds of academics, CEOs, and public figures signed a petition calling for a six-month pause in research aimed at developing stronger artificial intelligence technologies than GPT. 

The petitioners are concerned about the significant risks that this technology poses to humanity and question whether non-human software could ultimately surpass us in terms of intelligence and replace us.
